A Touch of Stone and Snow by Milla Vane is the second book in her barbarian romance series A Gathering of Dragons. This world is epic in scale, complex in its politics, and full of rich detail. I loved this second installment in particular because of the hero and heroine. Lizzan is wounded and vulnerable, but strong and determined. And Aerax is my kind of hero. Completely unwavering in his love for Lizzan. He knows it and isn’t afraid to say it. Watching them bond and grow and come to believe that they can have a future together was so sweet and delightful. Like in book one, there is a fabulous cast of side characters, all with their own interesting stories and personalities. The action is fast-paced, the tension is spot-on, and you want to keep reading until the end. This could be read stand-alone, but I recommend starting with book 1, A Heart of Blood and Ashes, especially if you like grumpy alpha heroes.
